Create a Cube Theme
Wednesday, June 25th, 2008
If you want to add some color & life to your cube consider creating a theme. An easy way to get things started is to check out a party supply pack from somewhere like Target. Party packs such as the “Hollywood Stars” have party favors which could easily serve as cube decoration or inspiration if you’re a do-it-yourselfer… Everything is coordinated– from cups & plates, which can be stapled to bulletin boards (use the leftovers for afternoon snacks) to coordinating ribbon & streamers. Also, you can surprise a co-worker on their birthday by creating a themed party. Other cool theme kits we found included: “1950’s Party Supplies”, “All Star Baseball”, “Spider Man”, “Star Wars”, “Penguins”, “Tiki Lounge Party”, and “Crazy Monkeys” ??!!… Well, there’s a ton of choices out there, so go out & get creative!
Now that Thanksgiving has passed it’s time to start getting into the Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Winter spirit! Include a personalized sign of your holiday cheer vis-à-vis your favorite holiday ornament hung from an ornament stand. Along with some peppermint hot chocolate and christmas tunes from your ipod you’ll instantly add an individualized touch of festiveness to your work place.
Color psychology is a scientific field devoted to analyzing the effect of color on human behavior and feeling. Color consultants believe that the colors used in the design of environment can have a significant impact on the emotions and performance of people within that environment. So if you are feeling anxious and stressed at work, it may be worthwhile to decorate your cube blue to evoke a feeling of peace and tranquility or try the calming and relaxing effects of green. Here is a list of the emotional associations with the following colors:
Trick or Treat! There are so many things to celebrate with regard to Halloween at the office… eating candy, dressing up in ridiculous costumes, and of course, scaring your co-workers! The first things that comes to mind when decorating your cube for Halloween are mini-pumpkins, faux spider webs, plastic candy cauldrons, and of course lots of orange and black. Or you could go with a theme, for example, if you and your fellow cube-mates were dressing as the Wizard of the Oz, why not make your adjacent cubicles into a mini-Oz city.
